Today is September 11th, 2006. Five years ago, this country lost many an innocent, and many a hero. I signed up as a blogger on 2,996 to memorialize one of the lost. So.... here goes: Waleska Martinez Rivera was a passenger on Flight 93 five years ago. Waleska was 37, and a native of Santurce, Puerto Rico. She moved to the US (Jersey City, NJ) in 1987. Waleska was an automation specialist for the US Census Bureau. She has a beautiful smile :-) Everything above is a fact, and like DC Roe stated in his blog post, I do not want to dishonor this victim by pretending I knew her. I only know what I read, and I read only wonderful things about this woman. She was kind, and helpful, and beautiful. I feel honored that I could remember someone who was lost on that awful, awful day, and that I can put a face to this sadness that I felt. Thank you, Waleska. This year is the fifth anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Whatever your feelings on terrorism or politics, the fact is 2,996 died in this act of violence on American soil. I signed up here to post a memorial to a victim of 9/11. They are very close to having enough bloggers signed up, only ten percent away from the total 2,996. where have i been? ooooh, the mystery! so... i haven't written on here in a really, really long time. what's been up, you ask? well. i haven't dropped out of school yet, so that's a plus! it's over in THREE WEEKS - YAY! i'm going to miss some of the people i've worked with/near, and both teachers. but i will be glad to move onto other subject matter. like computers. my next course is intro to information systems. basically a crap computer course about using the mouse and whatnot. oh hell yes! and here's the kicker: it's online. i didn't even pick up on that until jim asked how that was gonna work...something along the lines of "how can they do a class online if they can't use a computer??" brilliant. jim got to work in salisbury today! he has moved up within the realm of go-glass to a non-glass-cutting-crazyman! now he does computers! he does not need to take intro to information systems. hahaa! and, he totally came to see me at the bank. i love that!! the bank is much better recently. most of my coworkers were out sick back and forth for three weeks, and i was pretty much the only one that didn't end up with the horrible nasty illness. i have been very, very tired this week, though... ah well. i've earned a sick day! i just don't have any left, thank you very much HR department. bah! first real VW show of the year was sunday in englishtown, nj. the fastback didn't get to go this year, but it'll come back bigger and better next year! and orange, too! that show is mostly watercooled crap now, but it was still better than same one last year. last spring's show was total crap, and this one was decidedly less crappy. i did manage to get sunburnt, though... no thanks to METHOTREXATE! it works wonders on the pain/stiffness/fatigue/allaroundevil of RA, but damn if i don't burn quick! i shall begin to wear giant hats to counteract the burn! i will be AWESOME. speaking of awesome, my julie should be back soooon! i miss her! i took a week off in may just for the cause. maybe we can go to the washington zoo. or a baseball game. or into the woods! so many things we can do! wheee! let's see...what else do i have going on? or did have going on? jim and i have been married over nine months! go us! i did five loads of laundry today. go me! i started selling avon. it's picking up! my face is peeling. ______! i decided today that i must have orange sneakers to match the orange car. woot! i think that might be it for right now. i participated!
so, i've had two classes so far. and i feel smarter already, seriously! principles of accounting is excellent, and challenging. fundamentals of english is...looking pretty easy. this week's assignment: the comma. hells yeah! i love commas! AND, i know how to use them properly. see that, just there? i am awesome!! i talked a lot in class tonight, and i really surprised myself. i wasn't an "actually raise my hand and participate in class" kinda gal in school, ever. i just sat and watched, like a spy. speaking of spies... went to the international spy museum gift shop on saturday in dc. not the museum itself, just the gift shop. seriously, pay fifteen bucks for a museum in a city where there's a TON of free museums? i know myself, and no, not gonna do it! this was an excellent weekend all around; saturday: the caps won! against carolina, the number one team in the league! (number two now, bitches!) excellent day, walked all around dc, good food as usual, great company (hooray for a&k!), totally got a free rubber bracelet and a tiny washington capitals pen. oh yeah. sunday: jim joined my dark side! i now have a crazysexyINKED husband! and damn he's got some nice legs. maybe too nice... :-P borrowed slapshot and slapshot 2 from ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif?v=92.1) wshcaps (of course, who else would have the box set??) he totally gave jim hockey skates, too! i'm excited to watch him skate/maybe skate a little myself sooooon. birthday plans totally changed over the weekend... originally, planned to go to mci center and watch a LIVE caps/penguins game (how awesome is that?! penguins!), buuuuttheresnomoretickets! rar! but i think this may be for the best, because of the sheer number of peeps i would have wanted to go with us. buying a ton of tickets would have been crazy! but, now we can totally have a bunch of peeps over to the house, and maybe use up some of the beer that's in the fridge...left over from the wedding...hee hee! but on a sadder note...i may not be able to partake of this drinking. sadly, since i was a loser and let my arthritis treatment lapse for FIVE YEARS, i have entered the realm of moderate/severe suffering. and now i take methotrexate and CAN'T DRINK ALCOHOL. i didn't know that at first, but now i do. and i'm glad i do, because i was gonna drink myself into merry madness! and now, i won't die. yesssss! i'm suddenly sleeepy... the caps lost to the bruins tonight, but i'm not sad - i still have a love for beantown, and a definite bias to boston hockey. end of the year extravanganza!
taking an idea from wshcaps, this is a breakdown of my 2005: January.my "grandmother" wrote me (and jim) a huge, horrible letter. i long for her demise. she is the reason i bite my nails. February.hooray birthday! excellent time at a crappy indoor golf course, and then Uno's Chicago Grill. tax money came back, and we bought a vw fastback! awesomeMarch.i totally became a Notary. oh yeah! and, we got a dishwasher :-D April.Jim turned twenty-five!! His car insurance went down! Jim's grandmom passed on his birthday. we miss her. went to a crazy metal concert at the civic center. hells yeah, free tickets! May.i discovered that you can buy Sunkist Fruit Gems in a nine pound basket. my life is forever changed! had the best drunkenness with julie so far! i miss my julie :-( discovered jack daniels mixed with dr. pepper...again, my life is forever changed! June.WEDDING IS IMMINENT!!! THAT IS ALL!!! October.threw a kickass halloween party, i thought! made four colors of jello shooter. was very ill the next morning. hell yes. jim and wshcaps saw the caps' season opener, and brought me my very own mini stanley cup! on the girly front: i finally have a lipstick that i like. wet 'n' wild (ha! dirtiest makeup name ever!) dark pink frost; i usually don't wear makeup at all, but that's mainly due to me not having any i like. and being uber lazy in the mornings. but now i have one that i like, and this may lead to a more dressy leslie.... at work anyway! i'll still be slacker ripped jeans leslie for my down-time. meaning any time outside of the bank. woot! november is a crazy month! see here: november 1: i don't have to work the drive-thru until december. rock! november 2: bank buys us dinner for meeting goals for three months. free steak! november 3: leftover steak from the 2nd for lunch. the bestnovember 4: crazy nutzo friday! we were super-duper shorthanded at work. and it wasn't that it was busy, but that my co-workers came in with bad expectations for the day. it wasn't a "bad" day, just aggravating. and they couldn't handle it. christ, just deal! then the computers crashed, god forbid you have to write a receipt. again, DEAL! but to make it a lil better - free lunch with a gift certificate that we got on the 2nd. i had an excellent chef salad from subside deli. highly recommend! and, my boss had her baby. finally, ha! november 5: ONE YEAR AGO TODAY, WE SETTLED ON OUR HOUSE freakin' awesomenovember 6 approximately: this month is the six month-iversary of a certain letter to wal-martread it, and understand my insanity november 7: i get off work at two. preeeety cooool november 9: we've been married for FOUR months, right on! november 10: i have to work late, but only because.... november 11: veteran's day! BANKS BE CLOSED november 12: my cousin's having a 16th birthday party. pretty fortunately, she's also turning 16 :-P i think this is as far as i can go, until we get into the turkey eating. christ, it's gonna be christmas in less than two months. i bought cards already, mainly because that's all that anybody's gonna get. ha!
